Morello SPMT and self-propelled platform trucks
Battery-electric self-propelled modular transporters for extremely heavy and bulky loads inside the plant, with diesel versions for long outdoor routes. From 1 t to over 1,000 t (2.2 million lb).
Key features
Why choose a Morello self-propelled transporter
Up to 1,000 t and more
Capacities from 1 t to over 1,000 t (2.2 million lb), with deck size, speed and capacity built to your loads.
Electric first, diesel when needed
Battery-electric for work inside the plant. Diesel engine, diesel generator or hybrid for long outdoor routes. Hydrogen on request.
Steering for tight sites
Front-axle, all-axle, ±90° or omnidirectional steering, with electronic steering options on diesel units.
Rough ground
Hydraulic axle compensation keeps diesel units stable on uneven ground. Pneumatic, solid rubber or polyurethane wheels.
Cab, pendant or remote
Drive from a cab or footboard, or control from a pendant panel or remote. AGV version on request.
Lifting deck on request
Liftable decks with strokes from 50 mm (2 in) let the truck pick up and set down its own load.
Configurations
Self-propelled transporter configurations
Battery electric platform trucks
Zero-emission platform trucks with AC traction motors, PLC control and a driver cab, for indoor and outdoor routes.

How it works
What a self-propelled transporter does
A self-propelled transporter has its own drive, steering and power, so it carries the load on its deck without a tractor or a crane. Morello calls its diesel range self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT): built for very heavy, bulky loads in confined spaces, with hydraulic axle compensation for rough ground.
Most units are battery-electric, because they work inside the plant with zero emissions and low noise. Diesel is the choice when the transporter works outdoors and covers long distances. Hybrid units run on diesel outside and switch to battery inside.

Applications
Where Morello self-propelled transporters work
Shipyards
Move hull blocks and naval panels between shops and the slipway.
Steel plants
Carry ingots, coils and bars between yards and buildings, on rough outdoor ground.
Power and nuclear
Transport heavy containers and components outdoors, such as a 130 t unit at a nuclear facility.

Hybrid units run on diesel outside and on battery inside the building.
Morello Self-Propelled Transporters: frequently asked questions
What is an SPMT?
SPMT stands for self-propelled modular transporter: a heavy-load platform with its own engine, drive and steering, controlled from a cab, footboard, pendant or remote. Morello builds SPMT and self-propelled platform trucks from 1 t to over 1,000 t (2.2 million lb) for shipyards, steel plants and heavy industry.
Electric or diesel: which should I choose?
For work inside the plant, battery-electric is the usual choice: zero emissions, low noise and lower maintenance, and with lithium batteries and planned charging it can run around the clock. Diesel suits transporters that work outdoors and travel long distances. Hybrid units combine both for routes that go indoors and outdoors. Prella helps size the right option.
Can a self-propelled transporter work on rough ground?
Yes. Morello diesel transporters use hydraulic axle compensation, so uneven or rough ground is not a problem, and pneumatic wheels are available. Gradeability is set per project, from 2% to over 20%. Tell Prella about your surfaces, slopes and route and we will check the configuration with Morello.
Can Morello self-propelled transporters run automatically?
Yes. Both diesel and battery-electric units are available as AGV versions on request, with laser scanners, sensitive bumpers and ultrasonic sensors for safety. Morello has built a 60 t automatic diesel transporter. Prella can quote an automated version once the route and loads are defined.
Need to move loads too heavy for a forklift or crane?
Send Prella the load weight and size, your route, surfaces and duty cycle. We quote, deliver, start up and service Morello self-propelled transporters across North America.
