About Gerardi
The company behind the modular vise
Gerardi S.p.A. was founded in 1971 in Lonate Pozzolo, near Milan Malpensa airport. It was the first company to offer precision modular vises for machine tools and the first Italian company to design a complete modular steel clamping system.
Today the range covers three areas: workholding for CNC machining centers, tooling for machining centers and CNC lathes, and automation. Vises and accessories are modular, so components interchange with perfect alignment from one setup to the next.

Gerardi machine vises and workholding for US machine shops
Gerardi modular vises are built around one idea: every vise and accessory interchanges with the others, with perfect alignment. Shops start with STD or StandardFLEX vises on a vertical machining center, then add XL vises, modular elements or vise towers as jobs change. For multi-part production, FMS and Multiflex vises clamp several workpieces at once. For 5-axis machining, CompactGrip, MaxiGrip, Multitasking and 5G vises give self-centering clamping with access to five sides. Tombstones, Quick Change plates and the Zero Point system cut setup time on horizontal and vertical machines, so spindles spend more time cutting.
On the tooling side, Gerardi angle heads let a machining center drill, mill and tap at 90° or adjustable angles, while spindle speeders add rpm for small tools. For turning centers, Gerardi driven tools fit VDI and BMT turrets. Gerardi also offers grippers and the ROBI automation cell for robot-tended machining. Prella Technologies handles quote, delivery, start-up and service for Gerardi products across North America.
Gerardi: frequently asked questions
What makes Gerardi vises modular?
Gerardi vises and accessories are designed to interchange with perfect alignment. Bases are ground and checked on a CNC measuring machine, with keyways or positioning holes for repeatable placement. You can combine vises side by side, mount them vertically on towers, or swap jaws to change from single to double or self-centering clamping.
Which Gerardi vise is best for 5-axis machining?
Gerardi offers several vises designed for 5-axis machining centers: Multitasking, CompactGrip, MaxiGrip, 5G and the automated GripMatic. They are compact and self-centering for access to five sides of the part. Most are Zero Point ready. Prella can help match the vise to your part size, material and machine.
Do Gerardi driven tools fit my CNC lathe?
Gerardi offers more than 1,000 driven tool types in VDI and BMT versions to fit the turrets of the most popular CNC lathe builders. Options include axial, radial, offset and adjustable-angle tools, plus double or multiple outputs. Send Prella your lathe make, model and turret type for a matching quote.
How does the Gerardi Zero Point system reduce setup time?
The Zero Point system is normally closed: springs lock the pull stud and compressed air releases it. Fixtures and vises with pull studs drop onto the pallet and lock in position with 0.005 mm (0.0002 in) repeatability. Gerardi states setup time savings of up to 95% compared with conventional fixture changeovers.
